How Backblaze REALLY works - Life Saver!

    For Business Backup:

Amazon Links to a couple external drive I recommend:

    Crucial SSD: https://amzn.to/3IBTkU8

    LaCie Rugged: https://amzn.to/3ybdpM0

Started using Backblaze 4 / 5 years ago as I knew I needed a cloud backup option but just never really took the plunge as it didn’t seem that necessary.

Over time I started storing more and more data on external dries. Initially personal stuff but also started producing more video content for work.

For work I decided to do a local backup or Clone of any drives so there’s always 2 physical drives in case one fails or gets damaged. I didn’t have a duplicate drive of everything however as it depended if we’d do enough work to warrant the expense of 2 drives. If not then there was 1 drive with multiple client projects on.

Being aware of this I decided it was time to include some cloud backups into the mix, for the few drives I had. It turns out it was one of the best decisions I ever made.

    Pros:

    - Mac or Windows

    - 15 day free trial - Probably won’t really notice it but able to check out the platform and interface (web & app)

    - Works away in the background, don’t even notice. - Pause the upload if needed to free up bandwidth

    - UNLIMITED storage of backups. - I have 8.5 TB of data marked for backup.

    - Backup as many external drives as you want - UNLIMITED storage

    - Get reminders if drive has been disconnected after 14, 21, 30 days

£6ish a month (save on annual)

    - Version History - 30 days included. Upgrade for longer. Deleted a file? Get it back.

    - Easily access and download files

    - FREE* restore of any files physically shipped out. -  up to 8TB drive - Costs roughly $190 BUT return it and get a refund for drive. Just pay the shipping. (was around £30 when I did it)

    Cons:

    - Accessing the files through the web portal can be a little sluggish.

    - Can preview images, jpeg, PNG. Can’t preview anything else. Need to download first.

    - Can’t back up a NAS - Needs Business Backup - They have a NAS app specifically for this to manage but you do pay for storage. Extremely affordable but not unlimited.

    - If you have a lot of files to back up, the initial backup can take a LONG time depending on your internet speeds
